The Princess Bride (1987)

Artwork for the Film
As a follow up to having watched You Highness (2011) I decided to watch The Princess Bride (1987) the other day, when I came across it on HBOgo.

A much better film.  Completely different subject matter, which might have more to do with the times and the success of Pineapple Express (2008), but also very well done.

The comedic acting was superb, the script was great, the cinematography was well executed and proper for its purpose, and the characters were likable.

Part of that could be the fact that the characters are presented as archetypes and cliches, but believe me when I say that it won't bother you.

The true beauty of this movie (because you don't have to worry about a complicated plot) is that you can revel in the acting, the timing of the jokes, and more importantly, the script, which is so brilliant in its nuances.

Definitely worth buying it, kids will love it, and adults will cherish it.  One of those true cultural movies that has the ability to transgress its own epoch.
